As our world’s generation becomes more advanced and continues to develop every day, it allows us to be more connected to others and efficient than ever. However, every too much in every instance welcomes the unlikeable addiction. Internet and online game addiction can cause different negative aspects to your health and performance at school, in your family and relationship.

Online gaming addiction is one of the various types of internet addiction. It is now recognized as a mental health condition that can have major consequences for individual’s wellbeing. It reveals that teenagers are the ones to be heavy online gaming users. Studies even proved and tackled the possible consequences of excessive internet use by teens. In some serious cases or instances, they become detached from the normal or actual existence. They failed to eat or sleep on time and they don’t interact to people at all. The question is how to get rid or prevent yourself from online game addiction?

  • Give yourself a strict time limit for daily play. Setting appropriate limits can help prevent you from developing online game addiction. However, if you are seriously affected or addicted to online games, you should quit playing games altogether.
  • Avoid taking your gaming devices inside your bedroom as this may cause physical and mental stress. If you have gaming devices such as computer and mobile games, you may end up staying up all night playing instead of having an early sleep. If you are inclined to online games and doesn’t want to get tempted playing all night, better switch them off and put somewhere you cannot easily access.
  • Try apps or extensions to block your access to games. If you play games on your phone or computer, you can install apps or browser extensions that help you limit your play time.
  • Seek help to your family and friends. Ask them to help you stay on top of your gaming limits. Ask them to check in with you from time to time to make sure you’re not playing games when you’re supposed to be doing other things. Do NOT be embarrassed about asking for help.
  • Distract yourself with other fun activities such as, reading books or magazines, going for walks, spending time with your family and friends and working on a hobby or creative project.
  • Consult a professional. Ask your doctor or go to 24 hour walk in clinic for advice on monitoring your online game addiction. It can be difficult to talk to your doctor about something like this, but remember that it’s their job to help you cope with it.

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you’re having a hard time to limit your online gaming habit. Even though you don’t have that sever addiction to online games, habits can be difficult to change, and setbacks are a normal part of the process.
